CAIR-Chicago Responds to Iraqi Elections

"We American-Muslims expect and hope for democracy to take place in Iraq...we'd like to see it happen in the right way," Rehab said. He hopes the democracy in Iraq can be "far reaching, deep, and perpetuated." Without this, the democracy in Iraq may "disappear because it was never really there."

CAIR-Chicago Continues its Periodic Meetings Local US Attorney, FBI and DHS Representatives

As part of its on-going meetings with the local governmental officials, CAIR-Chicago met wit the local US Attorney, FBI and DHS representatives. CAIR-Chicago Executive Director, Yaser Tabbara, along with a number of Muslim community leaders, presented a number of issues concerning the Chicago Muslim community in relation to the three governmental agencies. The parties discussed ways in which the Chicago FBI and local DHS officials can continue to improve relationships with the Chicago Muslim community.

CAIR-Chicago Directors Participate in Congressman Lipinski's Townhall Meeting

February 19, 2005

Yaser Tabbara and Fadi Farhan, Executive and Governmental Relations Directors, respectively, of CAIR-Chicago participated in Congressman Daniel Lipinski's (IL – 3rd District) townhall meeting on Saturday, February 19, 2005, along with members of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), Instituto Del Progreso Latino, United Power for Action and Justice, and Mosque Foundation of Bridgeview. The three main issues of concern presented to the Congressman during the townhall meeting were as follows: inordinate numbers of handgun sales to criminals in his district, the establishment of a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and the creation of a national list of respected Muslim charities to which American Muslims and non-Muslims can donate without fear of federal investigation or accusation of donating to groups involved in terror.

Fadi Farhan, Governmental Relations Director of CAIR-Chicago as well as a member of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), the Mosque Foundation of Bridgeview, the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP), and the Muslim Civil Rights Center (MCRC), met with State Senator Jacqueline Y. Collins of the 16th District to discuss the issue of Muslim charitable contributions in Illinois.

CAIR-Chicago Organizing Lectures On Islam

CAIR-Chicago is organizing a series of introductory level lectures on Islam with Elderhostel on a program titled Building Bridges to Islam. The goal of this series is to offer citizens of the Chicagoland area an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of Islam, as well as to interact with members of their local Muslim communities.

CAIR-Chicago Mourns Dr. Farzana Hamid of Hamdard Center

CAIR-Chicago's board members, staff, and friends would like to extend their deepest condolences to Dr. M. Hamid and the entire American Muslim community for the loss of one of its precious visionaries, Dr. Farzana Hamid. Dr. Farzana was a pioneering activist in the field of mental health and cultural sensitivity issues. Her activism and her person will be deeply missed by all who knew her as well as those who benefited from her ceaseless efforts. Our condolences go out to her family and friends.








Update on Orland Park Project

I met with the good folks in Orland Park on Sunday, February 13th in order to explain the importance of getting out the vote on the local level and distribute registration forms to those whose family members or friends were still not registered.
